Art
My art is divided into two primary categories: Collage and Human Form Studies. Each represents one of the languages that I speak. Of course, I can express my ideas in conversations with friends and family--primarily in my native English though I have a minimal to passing ability in German and French. But sometimes those ideas are expressed in the classroom, in lectures, or in library programs: Oral Language. At other times, I express myself in articles and essays: Academic Language. My short fiction, novellas, and novels are a third kind of expression: Creative Language. There was even a time when I was in my twenties that I--as a self-taught composer--expressed myself in brief piano and orchestral compositions: Musical Language. But my thoughts and feelings are also expressed visually: Artistic Language. Thus, I always like to say that I'm multilingual, and when something moves me, intrigues me, or challenges me, I speak in the language that best conveys what I want to express--and more often than not, it is through the language of visual art.
